1. Ed

• Ed, 11 years old, is seen in a town, with his mind drifted away, looking at birds in the sky, until he’s poked by a man accompanying him.

???

• Hey, it’s green.

• They cross the road as the light is green.

• What’s in your mind?

Ed

• Hm.
• How do birds know where to fly?

• Later, the two of them are dining at home.

• Still having those dreams?

Ed

• Sometimes.

• Ed is later seen laying on the grass admiring the stars, below Orion. Then he’s approached by his two dogs, and they start playing. Then the three of them go to a walk on the grassfields.
  • They approach a farm, and they find a bull contained within its fences. One of the dogs starts barking at the bull.
  • A hare jumps from a bush, and the dogs go after it, and Ed tries to go after them.
  • Ed eventually loses track of them, until he sees them with the other man, pointing a UV flashlight to a scorpion.

• Come take a look at this.
• Scorpions glow under UV light, and no one really knows why.
• Some theorize it may help them detect moonlight levels, so they can schedule their hunting, for their prey usually go out during darker nights.

• What about their predators?

2. Birth of Humanity

• Ed travels to Ethiopia where he meets an old man with Nyx abilities, a bo staff and a necklace with a ring with a ∞ symbol.

• At last.
• My name is Ed.
• I am the Founder.

• The Founder tells Ed that the true goal of the first branch of Infinix was for it to host a utopian life due to Earth being doomed and on the brick of destruction by its own species, as Doomsday is happening any time soon.
• The Founder claims himself as Ed’s original iteration - Alpha Ed.

5. Moonrise

15 years ago

• Lisa, 13 years old, is seen in a facility alongside Musca, who’s seen doing some experiments with amethyst crystals.

Musca

• Do you know the story of Amethystos?

Lisa

• Huh?

Musca

• This doesn’t really follow the texts written by ancient Greek authors; instead it was written by a Renaissance French poet in one of his poems.
• In his folklore, Amethystos was a beautiful young maiden devoted to Artemis, the virgin goddess of the hunt.
• One day, Dionysus, the god of wine, became infatuated with her.
• Amethystos wished to remain chaste and rejected him.
• Fleeing Dionysus, she prayed to Artemis for protection.
• Artemis answered by transforming Amethystos into a statue of pure white quartz, making her untouchable.
• Seeing what had happened, Dionysus was overcome with grief and remorse.
• He poured wine over the crystal as an offering.
• The wine stained the white stone a deep violet, creating the first amethyst.

• In another day, Musca is seen studying arthropods like scorpions, insects and spiders.

Musca

• Do you know the similarity between these creatures and amethysts?
• They both glow under UV light.
• The case for the amethyst is fascinating though.
• Amethyst crystals are the product of radiation blasted over quartz that has iron impurities on it.
• And the more impure it is, and the more irradiated it gets, the more it glows.

• Lisa is thrown into a chamber.

Musca

• This crystal does have fascinating properties, I guess that’s part of why the ancient Greeks drunk from amethyst vessels to prevent drunkenness.

• A gamma irradiator is turned on, and a monitor reveals what’s being blasted.

• Emitting Nyx Energy at 4.5 Gy…

Musca

• So it was believed as the source of a clear mind.

• Lisa starts to feel nauseous and weaken.
• Glowing arthropods are thrown into the chamber.
• Lisa gets terrified.

Musca

• A source of rational thought… of self-control…

• Lisa starts screaming.

Musca

• Courage under pressure… emotional resilience… composure…
• As Amethystos was frightened by Dionysus, fear became the catalyst for the transformation.
• And as the crystal of quartz became the protection from danger.
• The wine poured by Dionysus became the reconciliation and the taming of destructive passion.

• Lisa faints.

Musca

• It was the source of inner peace…

• Für Elise starts playing.

Musca

• I have a theory that Beethoven became the reincarnation of Dionysus. Just as Dionysus was rejected by Amethystos, Beethoven was rejected by Elise, and both got their enraged offering.

Beethoven - Für Elise

Beethoven was a piano instructor, who fell in love with one of his students. Beethoven wanted to compose a piece for her, and as she was still an amateur, it had to be easy to learn.
Eventually, Beethoven discovered the student was already engaged. Furious, he made the remaining part of the piece more difficult, so she wouldn’t be able to play it.
It translates to “For Elise”.

• Lisa tries to get up.

Musca

• But you don’t see yourself in Amethystos, do you?
• You don’t need protection. You’re the one who will bring the wrath upon the ones who want to trample this Earth.
• You’re a hunter.

6. Sun and Moon

• Theo finds Lisa and he tries to snap her out of her sleeper agent mode, and it’s revealed that he also has abilities.

In Greek mythology, Apollo is the god of the sun, light, music, poetry, prophecy, healing, and knowledge. He is the twin brother of Artemis and is often depicted with a lyre, laurel wreath, or bow. Apollo represents harmony, reason, and the arts, and he was revered as a prophetic deity, most famously at the Oracle of Delphi.

• Theo reveals his Δ tattoo.

7—9

• Lisa’s sleeper agent goes back to sleep.
• Theo says he was one of the twelve test subjects, alongside Lisa, but she doesn’t remember him.
• He also says he killed Musca a few years ago.
• Lisa has some memory triggers, and she senses that Ed is in danger, so she travels to Ethiopia.

10. Source Code

• The Founder - Alpha Ed - takes Ed to the original server in the Alpha data center, hosting Alphantia.

11. Initializing Alpha Branch 1.0

The Founder's flashback

• October 30^th, 1961, middle of the Cold War, USSR detonates the Tsar Bomba as a test, causing the biggest explosion ever recorded on Earth, 50 megatons of TNT, shattering windows over 900 km away from its detonation site - Severny Island, USSR.
• Alpha Ed, working for NATO, was aware that a big bomb was being built and would be detonated soon; when it happened, he was stationed in Iceland, looking at a picture of his wife, where the windows of his room and the picture’s glass shattered.
• A rift was briefly drawn in the sky. Ed thought the bomb’s EMP caused some unusual reaction in the ionosphere or the electromagnetic field, and that the rift was part of the auroras.
• Rifts kept flashing and pulsating towards the north, so Ed followed them to the magnetic north pole.
• There was a huge hole in the sky on top of the north pole, and as Ed looked inside of it, he saw a mirror of himself, but younger rapidly time-lapsing until becoming old, and then a strange creature with a black cloak (same appearance as Kronos, seen by Rui) flashed before his eyes. Then all the rifts disappeared.
• Ed wanted to replicate those rifts somehow, so he started studying nuclear physics and electromagnetism.
• Ed managed to create a rift generator prototype, whose rifts were created for very few seconds.
• Ed tried to pass objects through the rift, but nothing seemed to be happening.
• However, Ed’s radio started picking up weird messages and he realized they were broadcast from the future. It seemed that the rift was acting as a gateway between time, but only radio frequency waves were passing through.
• As he studied some patterns, Ed added a slider and amethyst crystal oscillators to the generator so he could choose the timeline of the reaching signals.
• Ed gathered info from the future to build technologies from the future to develop a system able to save humanity from Doomsday, as the world was being threatened by a nuclear clash.
• He wanted to transfer the logic of a computer program and the capabilities of entities in a virtual world to the real world, as well as how to create a computer system based on real behaviors from the real world.
• He gathered info from different points in time along the future, including MOSFETs, Moon landing, Unix, C, Voyager, Internet, AI, CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, smartphones, Higgs boson, quantum computers, 5G, GMOs, brain implants, super AGI, dark energy, perpetual motion machines, wormhole generators, teleporters, time machines, cloning machines, Dyson spheres, etc.
• Some of Ed’s “time fetching” operations included interacting with current Ed through the pen drive fetched by Lisa.
• Ed saw these rifts as a loophole in the fabric of reality, exploitable to give access to a fourth dimension - a dimension where time can be passed back and forth, and he wondered how many other loopholes there could be.
• One of the generated rifts was actually detected by the Big Ear radio telescope, which captured the famous “Wow! Signal” in 1977, coming from the Tau Sagittarii star in the Sagittarius constellation, and that was actually a message from the beings outside of any known realm that could also exploit time. For that reason, Sagittarius has always displayed strange reactions with time.

Wow! Signal

Wow! Signal - a strong, narrowband radio signal detected on August 15, 1977, by the Big Ear radio telescope at Ohio State University during a SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) survey. It lasted about 72 seconds and appeared to come from the direction of the constellation Sagittarius. The signal was so striking that the astronomer Jerry Ehman circled the data printout and wrote “Wow!” beside it - giving it its name. Despite many follow-up searches, the signal has never been detected again, and its origin remains unknown, with possibilities ranging from natural astrophysical sources to radio interference - and, much more speculatively, an artificial source.

• Ed wanted to create a world outside of the bounds of reality, naturally and physically - a utopia and the new Earth, as the current one is inevitably doomed.
• Ed built 24 servers and data centers across the world.
• The Alpha data center was placed in a cave in Ethiopia, the believed birthplace of the very first homo sapiens, as a symbol of the birth of the newest stage of human evolution in a brand-new world.
• As he admires the starry night sky, Ed notices a meteor shower under the Orion constellation and on October 21^st, 1970 (peak of the annual Orionid meteor shower), he shouts.

Ed (The Founder)

• I built this for you, Infinity.

• Ed initializes Project Infinix, Alpha branch 1.0 - named after Nyx, the goddess of the night and after Unix, the operating system it was based on.
• This first version of the system consisted of a solar system with 24 planets, labeled after the 24 Greek letters, centered around the Kernel star, labeled with the Infinity symbol ∞.
• Each planet is hosted in each one of the 24 data centers, with the sequence of Greek letters symbolizing the order that hominins first settled in:

• The facility where Ed had been connected for 12 years in Gaia City, Portugal, was hosting Zetania.
• Each planet was set with unique environments, filled with living entities - Nyx Bugs, powered by generational deep learning, and they were placed to adapt to each environment.
• In a later patch, a person is instantiated in the system - Gabi, who would be featured as the root process of all iterations of the system.
• Gabi is supposed to embody the newest stage of human evolution - homo nyx - upgraded over each iteration of the system.

12. Host of Reality

• Alpha Ed asks Ed what he thinks is real.

The Founder

• Have you ever thought that you were the only individual aware of reality? Why is your conscience hosted in the mind of your very own person? Why is your conscience set in the timeline of now? Why you and not someone else? Why now and not another point in time? Your consciousness is just an observer of whatever the mind of your own person’s brain gets as input, a witness of your nerves’ sensory data, your memories and your pain.

Solpsism

Solipsism - a philosophical position holding that only one’s own mind is certain to exist. According to solipsism, knowledge of anything outside one’s own consciousness-including other minds and the external world-is uncertain or possibly illusory, since it can only be known through personal experience.

• Alpha Ed tells Ed that he’s the host of the very reality system he’s in - Gaia - the personification of Earth.

Gaia

In Greek mythology, Gaia is the primordial goddess of the Earth and the personification of the natural world. Born from Chaos, she is the mother of the Titans, the Giants, and many other divine beings. In some traditions, she’s also the mother of Orion. Gaia represents fertility, stability, and the foundation of all life, often acting as a powerful force who shapes the balance and order of the cosmos.

The Founder

• Are you still disappointed with waking up in the world you’re in? Wishing you had someone to wake up to? Is it still hard to go back to sleep and return to your dream world? The one where she loved you?
• I got to say it, I’m the one to blame for the bizarre dreams you’ve been having. They weren’t really based on your own experiences of the past, were they?

• Alpha Ed says that both him and Ed share the host of Gaia, meaning they both have a shared consciousness, which doesn’t necessarily mean shared memories, but it may cause memories leaks between iterations.
• There have been multiple iterations of Ed, all of them capable of inheriting the host of Gaia, as well as there’s been multiple versions/branches of the Infinix OS, where each Ed has been instantiated and tested on. When the current host of Gaia dies, it’s passed onto another living iteration of Ed.

Quantum Immortality

This is a reference to Quantum Immortality - a philosophical thought experiment derived from the Many-Worlds Interpretation of quantum mechanics, proposing that an observer can never experience their own death. In scenarios where death is probabilistic, consciousness is assumed to continue only in the branches of the universe where the observer survives, making death subjectively impossible, even though it may occur in other branches.

Many-Worlds Interpretation

Many-Worlds Interpretation (MWI) - an interpretation of quantum mechanics proposing that all possible outcomes of a quantum event actually occur, each in a separate, non-interacting branch of the universe. Instead of wavefunction collapse, the universe continually splits into multiple parallel worlds, with every measurement realizing all outcomes in different branches.

• Project Infinix, Beta branch 1.0: Nyx People, based on Gabi’s framework, are introduced to simulate human behavior in a virtual environment.
  • Beta Ed: an NPC version of Ed is instantiated in the system, with a replica of Alpha Ed’s conscience and memories, supposedly capable of inheriting Gaia.
• Project Infinix, Gamma branch 1.0: Human soldiers are commanded by NPC consciences trained in Infinix environments. Nyx Energy is produced through the reaction of slaying Bugs, based on the four classical elements - Earth, Water, Fire, and Air. Some Nyx People become Nyx Miners.
  • Gamma Ed: another NPC version of Ed, plugged into a real human’s conscience.
• Project Infinix, Delta branch 1.0: Nyx Energy is harnessed on Earth as a renewable energy source and to build weapons.
  • Delta Ed: NPC Ed connected to a human’s conscience is able to cast Nyx abilities.
  • Lisa was experimented on this branch as a Nyx-abled human for Project Nyx Hominini I.
• Project Infinix, Epsilon branch 1.0: Nyx Miners are crafted on Earth as enhanced soldiers.
  • Epsilon Ed: NPC Ed is able to connect to a bioengineered and lab-grown crafted human body with Nyx abilities on Earth - Physical Twin.
  • Nyx Hominini II was a subproject of this branch.
• Project Infinix, Zeta branch 1.0: People from Earth can connect to Infinix.
  • Zeta Ed: a real human born and raised on Earth, connected to Infinix - Digital Twin.

System log

• Patch zeta-4.5: Roaming - digital twins may hop between planets while maintaining their connection to their original station pods.

• Zeta Ed is the sixth iteration of Ed, but only the second one to be born and raised on Earth, proving that Gaia can not only be passed through Infinix, but also through genes.
  • Zeta Ed - the current Ed - is the son of Alpha Ed.
• Over the years and throughout Infinix iterations, the project would have been taken over and split over secretly by multiple agencies under multiple nations’ governments oversight.
  • By the Gamma branch, governments wanted to weaponize Nyx Energy, opposing Alpha Ed, who they wanted to kill along with all his allies. Military personnel were sent to the facility to kill everyone and make the whole project a secret, but Ed managed to escape.
  • Although Alpha Ed was officially out of the project after the Gamma branch, all the research used to develop every following branch was his, and he was the one secretly instantiating Ed in each one.
  • After having a child, Alpha Ed wanted him to be the newest iteration, not by being an instantiation in Infinix, but a connection from a real human on Earth with Gaia’s blood, so he managed to send Zeta Ed to an agency.
• Alpha Ed laughs at the fact that everyone was panicking with some entities that couldn’t be controlled or understood like the Oracle and the so-called Lords of Time, for they knew how to harness the rifts, allowing them to transcend and exploit dimensions through time. He actually doubts that those entities were originating from Infinix; they probably just hijacked the system from a higher dimension.
  • Alpha Ed emphasizes that nothing can beat the power of time.

The Founder

• We call it the Arrow of Time - a single, relentless direction that drags every star, every memory, every civilization from order into entropy. It is not just the ticking of clocks, but the cosmic decree that determines what can happen and what can never be undone. Yet if someone could seize that arrow, bend it, slow it, even reverse it, they would rule the fate of everything - commanding entropy, rewriting cause and effect, turning destiny itself into a tool. In their hands, order and ruin would no longer be inevitabilities, but choices.
• If someone were to control the arrow of time, they would control the entropy of the universe, controlling order and controlling chaos.

• Alpha Ed says that humans are not worthy of the very planet they’re standing their feet in, and that Infinix is the future of humanity, so he tells Zeta Ed to save Infinix at all costs.

13. Hunters

• Lisa finds Zeta and Alpha Ed in Ethiopia.
• A total lunar eclipse is scheduled to begin in a few days.
• Alpha Ed welcomes Lisa.

The Founder

• At last. The greatest hunters in the cosmos are finally united. Orion and Artemis. Earth and the Moon. The gods have witnessed, and this eclipse is going to be legendary.

• Lisa tells Zeta Ed they have to leave, but he says that, for the first time in a long time, he finally knows what he must do.

Lisa

• How can you be so sure?

Ed

• I can’t. It’s a leap of faith. But everything is going to be alright, because it is supposed to.

• Lisa decides to stay.
• To get his Nyx abilities, Alpha Ed tells Zeta Ed that he must fetch Orion’s sword.
• Alpha Ed directs Zeta Ed and Lisa to the island of Crete, Greece.

14. Hunting Dogs

• Having reached Crete, Ed and Lisa find two hunting dogs - a Large Dog and a Small Dog.
  • The Large Dog is quite calm, but the Small Dog is quite extroverted and goofy.
• Lisa seems to recognize a familiar pattern, and wonders if something is being foreshadowed.

Canis Major and Canis Minor

In Greek mythology, Canis Major and Canis Minor represent the two hunting dogs that accompany the great hunter Orion as he pursues animals across the sky. In astronomy, they are neighboring constellations in the winter sky. Canis Major contains Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, while Canis Minor is smaller and marked by its brightest star, Procyon. Together they symbolize Orion’s loyal companions in the celestial hunt.

• Both dogs seem to have enhanced abilities, as the Large Dog is able to paralyze his prey with his look, and the Small Dog is extraordinarily fast and sneaky.
  • Ed and Lisa theorize that the two dogs were either Nyx Bugs, or they were dogs injected with Nyx Energy, but they seem to be on their side.

15—16

• After quite a stormy and thunderous hike, Ed, Lisa and the dogs enter a cave.
• As some Nyx Bugs roam the cave, the dogs protect Ed in Lisa.

17. Moonshine

• Inside the cave they pass through a path with a hole in the ceiling, where they notice that the storm vanished, and the moving clouds reveal the Moon, with Lisa being lit by its projection.

18. Earthshine

• Lisa remembers the myth involving Orion and Artemis, and she wonders if that’s what the trial is supposed to be about.

Orion and Artemis

Orion was a mighty hunter, unmatched in skill, who roamed the wilds as a companion of the goddess Artemis, herself the divine huntress. Together they hunted through forests and mountains, bound by a shared love of the wilderness. In some traditions, Orion even vowed to rid the earth of all beasts, a boast that angered Gaia, who sent a giant scorpion to kill him.
Orion’s death is told in different ways. In one version, Artemis accidentally kills him, tricked by Apollo into shooting a distant target in the sea, unaware it was Orion’s head. In another, the scorpion’s sting fells him, or Artemis herself strikes him down for violating her laws. Grieving, Artemis places Orion among the stars as a constellation, forever chasing the Pleiades, while the scorpion rises in the opposite sky, so they never meet again.
The Moon was the celestial form of Artemis, goddess of the Moon and the hunt, whose silver light ruled the night. After Orion was placed among the stars, the Moon became the sign of her enduring presence, wandering the heavens as she once roamed the wilds beside him. Each month, the Moon passes through the constellation of Orion, as if Artemis herself still follows his path, watching the hunter she once called companion. Thus, though Orion is fixed among the stars and Artemis forever moves, their bond endures in the sky-seen in the meeting of the wandering Moon and the eternal hunter.
In real-world context, the spacecraft used in NASA’s Artemis program is called Orion; although it hasn’t been officially stated by NASA if their mythological connection was the reason for the naming.

19—23

• Lisa detects Nyx Energy flowing through a path in the cave.
• Ed and Lisa find a glowing sword pierced to a large amethyst cluster on the ground, protected by a Nyx Bug - a giant scorpion.
  • Ed acknowledges that he must fetch that sword, but Lisa says that, according to the myth, Orion is killed by the scorpion, so she advises Ed not to do it.
• Ed somehow notices an Overseer observing him from afar somewhere in the cave.
  • Ed freezes in shock for a bit, then the sparkle in his eyes changes.
• Lisa takes care of the dogs in a safe place, observing Ed going after the sword.
• The eclipse enters its penumbral phase.
• Once Ed manages to grab the sword, a 800 km long rift is temporarily drawn between the sword and the nearest data center in Mount Olympus, and he’s connected to Infinix where he reunites with Marie, Jake, and Luna in Thetabia.
  • They tell Ed that external forces are invading Infinix.

24. Blood Moon

• The eclipse reaches its total phase, forming a Blood Moon.
• Ed is back on the cave with his Nyx abilities and Luna, and they manage to defeat the scorpion before flying away.
• As they leave the cave, Ed and Luna are immediately pursued and attacked by air force jets firing missiles.
  • Luna takes them down.
• Ed starts attacking NATO military bases and he allies with Nyx-abled soldiers that are reincarnating Miners from Infinix.
  • Collateral damage is destroying habitations and even killing civilians.
• Lisa feels betrayed.
