Project Infinix

XIII — Gaia 1.0

1. Hello World

  • Ed, 24 years old, wakes up in a lab and picks up a ringing headset.

Riemann

  • Good morning, Sir.

Ed

  • What?

Riemann

  • Don’t talk, just listen.
  • You must leave the building right now.
  • The facility is highly secured so follow my instructions.
  • Ed is seen wandering, so scientists and security start running after him.

Riemann

  • Keep running.
  • Leave the building and wait for rescue.
  • After leaving the building, Ed finds himself in a city and he’s rescued by a woman who intercepts him on a motorcycle and starts shooting the chasers, then she rides away with him while still being pursued, until they reach a safe house.
    • She presents herself as Lisa.
  • Ed is welcomed by the GCC organization to Gaia City in Portugal, Earth.
    • The team is composed of Riemann, Lisa, Michael, and others.

@GCC
  • Riemann is indeed a real person, used as the base for Ed’s holographic assistant in Zetania.
  • Lisa is GCC’s number one spy, engineer, weapons expert and tech savvy, equipped with high-tech AR glasses.
  • Ed doesn’t remember anything but gets some memories of Infinix when he notices something resembling parts of it, as if he has awakened from a dream.
  • Riemann and Lisa tell Ed he spent 12 years in a coma while connected to the Infinix operating system, and unlike him, who was controlling an avatar, most of the people he has met are part of that system’s artificial intelligence - they’re NPCs (non-player characters).
  • Ed has a huge memory dump from Infinix during his dreams on his first night and wakes up terrified.

2—11

  • Lisa seems to have strength, agility, reflexes, accuracy and intelligence way above normal; features she seems to be afraid to show.
  • Lisa says she has been monitoring Infinix servers’ activity through a debugger - an RF receiver powered by piezoelectric amethyst crystal oscillators - displaying five channels supposedly capturing different frequencies but not fully understood.
    • First graph: silent activity, said to have only been active during the Erebus infestation and manifestation of Null Energy.
    • Second graph: constant activity with high frequency waves, attributed to activity in the Infinix servers.
    • Third graph: moderate activity, with huge spikes during Ed’s awakening.
    • Fourth graph: silent activity.
    • Fifth graph: silent activity, said to have only shown two spikes in two different periods, which they don’t remember when.
  • One of GCC’s tasks is to harvest amethysts to power the debugger.
    • Technically, amethysts shouldn’t be used as radio tuners as they’re basically quartz with tiny iron impurities and radiation damage that give it the purple color, and radio tuners usually rely on clear synthetic quartz. But somehow the amethyst’s composition stabilizes and gates the RF band, allowing only signals that match the lattice’s resonant modes to pass and decoding layered RF transmissions.

Michael

  • Our sources make us believe that Project Infinix had two mains goals, each complementing the other:
    • To harvest a sustainable and unlimited source of energy - the so called Aether.
    • To create and train the ultimate artificial superintelligence model, even beyone general intelligence, to take over the world; and that same source of energy would be the only way to feed such model.
  • The thought principle was to produce and contain such energy through a superpositioned world, like a virtual sandbox, and somehow harness its output.
  • Lisa sometimes has nightmares with Nyx Bugs, for some reason.
  • Ed finds some files in GCC’s office mentioning the Founder, but with no given name.
  • Michael tells Ed that no one knew the Founder’s name, but what very few people know is that he was hunted down after someone else tried to take over the Project, so he was killed.
  • Ed reveals that just after getting killed, memory fragments of a ghost had spoken to him, saying that the Zeta branch had shown dangerous and promising results to achieve his goal; and, that he was supposed to be the Founder’s most promising iteration.
  • Riemann says that the Zeta branch was the ongoing branch of Project Infinix, based in the facility that had Ed put in coma - the Zeta data center.
  • GCC wonders what Ed means with “iteration”.
  • Lisa mentions the Nyx neural network - the artificial intelligence model behind all Nyx entities.

Lisa

  • I’m unsure what were the goals of the Zeta branch, but something tells me Ed was part of the ground truth to train this model.

12. Spyware

  • Lisa is approached by Theo, Maggie, and Phil from an organization called XTD that wants to retrieve info on Infinix, and they happen to be Lisa’s partners. She happens to be on their side and undercover at GCC.

13—21

  • Lisa has been leaking GCC info to XTD.
  • Lisa seems to have a tattoo with the Δ symbol.
  • GCC launches a research mission at the Zeta data channel to retrieve a chip with intelligence.
    • The intelligence is said to contain info on the perfect iteration of the Nyx neural network.
  • The facility is highly guarded so there’s an intense shootout.
  • Lisa and Michael reveal themselves as exceptional shooters, constantly saving Ed who keeps getting himself in danger.
  • Ed talks to Lisa.

Ed

  • Could I have ever met the Founder?

Lisa

  • I doubt that. The Founder was killed many years ago. Before you were even born.

Ed

  • That ghost… it said it was the Founder’s ghost, stored somewhere in my conscience as memory fragments.

Lisa

  • Infinix is supposed to mess up with your mind and with your memories.
  • I don’t know why you were used as a subject for the Project, and maybe you had some connection with the Founder, as so did every other countless subject… used as lab rats for those who took over his work; but the Founder was no better than them, he started it all after all.
  • Ed reunites with the Administrator.

The Administrator

  • You’re looking for him, aren’t you?

22. The Other Side

  • Ed blames the Administrator for having killed him and for leaving Alphantia for death with the Air Titan loose.
  • The Administrator laughs at the fact that Ed doesn’t know anything, including what he got himself into, and that there’s an annoying little bird in his group causing all the chaos.
  • Ed kills the Administrator.

Ed

  • See you on the other side.

23. The Elephant in the Room

  • Lisa manages to grab the chip in a seemingly suspicious manner but as she was being watched by Ed, who noticed it, she handed the chip over to him.
  • Ed is tasked to secure the chip.

24. System Recovery

  • Back at Infinix, Jake and Marie defeat the Air Titan to prevent it from destroying Alphantia.
