Project Infinix
XV — Gaia 3.0
1. Digital Twin
- Lisa reveals that Ana was also connected to the Infinix system but only for 3 years and through a different agency; having been disconnected when she was killed by Ed in Zetania, where she lost her memories.
- This also means that the version that Ed reunited with in Sigmaran and died in Alphantia was an NPC.
- Ed is mad at Lisa for knowing the whole truth all this time and hiding it.
2—11
- GCC investigates XTD’s facility.
- Ed meets Ana and although she’s still hostile, she begins to have memory fragments of him, and he manages to recover the chip, but GCC is ambushed by armed XTD agents.
- Ed thinks Lisa has set them up, but she swears she didn’t.
- Lynx reveals that the intelligence is encrypted, whose decryption key can be found at Infinix, so he orders GCC to establish a connection using one of their stations.
- One of XTD’s members, named Corvus, seems to be a scientist with administrator permissions at Infinix, who says he doesn’t have the means to decrypt the intelligence. He actually seems to be benevolent and secretly supportive of the GCC members.
Corvus
Scientist @XTD
- Ed is told that he cannot establish a connection as his Nyx avatar has been killed, and so was Ana’s; Lisa is also revealed to not want to be part of it, so Michael volunteers and connects to Infinix.
- Michael meets Jake who thinks he’s an administrator, but Michael manages to get him on his side after telling him that Ed is alive, so Jake offers help.
- An administrator finds out that Michael and Jake want to access confidential secrets from Infinix, so the key gets deleted.
- Talia shows up and she seems to have mastered Zeke’s katana which she uses along with her bow.
- Sometimes she manages to summon a single-headed Hydra hologram with her katana, and her arrows are poisoned with Hydra’s blood.
Hydra'd blood
In Greek mythology, after Heracles defeated the Lernaean Hydra, he dipped his arrows into the creature’s poisonous blood. The Hydra’s venom made the arrows lethally toxic, ensuring that even small wounds became fatal. This act became crucial in later myths, but it also foreshadowed tragedy, since the poison eventually played a role in Heracles’s own death.
- Corvus seems to be stalling the mission, and Lynx is getting mad at him.
- Michael, Jake, and Talia manage to access the memory matrix and recover the key.
12. Nyx
- GCC finally decrypts the intel and finds out that the current Infinix OS branch is dependent on a root process, and the system only exists if this process exists.
- This branch was initialized upon the birth of that process, and while there are entities apparently older than it, they were instantiated as such.
Last Thursdayism
This is a reference to the Last Thursdayism - a philosophical and theological thought experiment suggesting that the universe was created very recently, for example, last Thursday, but with the appearance of age and history. According to this idea, all evidence of the past-memories, fossils, geological formations, light from distant stars-was created as part of the universe’s initial state, making the universe indistinguishable from one that has existed for billions of years. It is primarily used to explore questions about knowledge, perception, and the reliability of evidence, often highlighting the limits of empiricism and the philosophical problem of skepticism.
- The root process seems to belong to a Nyx Miner, serving as the foundation for the creation of every existing Nyx Person. This Miner is said to be host of the Infinix system and the personification of the night - Nyx - Infinix’ deity.
Nyx
In Greek mythology, Nyx is the primordial goddess of the night, born from Chaos. She embodies darkness and mystery and is one of the most powerful deities, feared even by Zeus. Nyx is the mother of many personifications, including Sleep (Hypnos), Death (Thanatos), and Doom (Moros), representing the profound and inevitable forces of existence.
- Everyone wonders who this so-called Nyx could be, as they’re only retrieving partial information.
- Lynx threatens Corvus to reveal who Nyx is and orders his agents to arrest the GCC members.
- A few minutes later, Corvus, beaten up, is thrown into the same cage, and he seems to have unveiled everything to Lynx.
- Ed asks him who is Nyx.
- Armed XTD agents are connected to Infinix, wandering in a forest and looking for someone.
Corvus
- Isn’t it obvious? How blind can you be? Haven’t you seen it with both of your eyes?
- She fought for you; she fought for all Miners, for all people and for all entities, and she was never aware of her potential and her responsibilities.
- Mother nature calls her name, and she embraces all of it. She’s the one true force of nature.
- The whole system grasps at her grace, and all creatures either kneel, or they must fear her.
- The agents feel the ground shaking; they notice tree branches and roots moving, and they’re attacked by Nyx Bugs. They also notice rocks floating in the air.
Corvus
- The Founder really wanted to create the next stage of human evolution, trying to craft the perfect woman for his dream world, so she could fight his demons. And in his realm of the night, within all the void, the new birth of humanity…
- Let there be light.
- The agents spot their target - Gabi.
Gabi
HostNyx
- As agents try to attack Gabi, she’s defended by Bugs and trees, whose roots leave the ground to wrap the invaders.
- She surprisingly unleashes a huge amount of power, summoning and controlling tree roots and branches, as well as levitating and throwing rocks and most of all, altering their matter on the atomic level, turning them into gemstones. She effortlessly defends herself against the agents.
Corvus
- Look at her go.
- She’s the queen of the night, walking relentlessly to the edge of her fate.
- Through the fires and flames, through her enemies’ remains. And now, they will see her glory.
- She never knew what life she would lead.
- She came of age in a time of sorrow, born to light our way home.
- Consort of the darkness, and mother of destiny, doom, vengeance, deceit, discord, pain and dreams.
- One wonders if Nyx can even be passed on, as every previous iteration of the system never lasted over the current host’s lifetime.
13. Heart of Infinix
- More agents are sent to Infinix by XTD to capture Gabi, this time enhanced with some root / admin-level permissions
- As Gabi strangely struggles to hold herself against the invaders, she detects a strange energy coming from them, an energy she had already felt coming from Ed.
- Corvus is shot and has he’s bleeding to death; he says that Gabi must be protected at all costs, for she’s the heart of Infinix and the whole system depends on her.
- Lisa frees the ones arrested.
14—22
- Lisa is arrested by the XTD for sabotaging the operation.
- Michael reconnects and meets up with Gabi, informing her that she’s the heart of Infinix and must not be taken at all costs.
- Gabi finds out that Ed is alive in another world and that Infinix is a virtual world.
- Gabi is revealed to be able to harness raw energy from the Kernel, giving her system-level root abilities like controlling, restoring and enhancing Bugs and other system entities.
- Ana starts to disagree with XTD’s goals and gets mistreated, so she wants to tear it down.
- Gabi manages to channel overloaded energy towards XTD stations on Earth by striking their agents, managing to set the facility on fire.
- Ed finds Lisa locked up, so he rescues her just as the facility is about to blow up.
- Lisa kills Lynx.
23. Ground Truth
- Theo, Maggie, Phil and Ana quit XTD which is disbanded.
- Ed wants Ana to stay, to explain things. She refuses.
Ed
- I promised I’d never leave you again.
- Till death do us part.
Ana
- It already did.
- Ana disappears.
Lisa
- Hey.
- I have something to tell you.
- I had been trying to free you from Infinix for 6 years.
- I knew the horrors of being a test subject for the project, so when I found you, I had to set you free.
- You were the reason I joined XTD.
- I was the one who released the Air Titan in Alphantia. It wasn’t the Administrator.
- Killing you was the only way to disconnect you from the System.
- I infiltrated GCC because of their knowledge and proximity to Infinix’ facility that was holding you, but XTD’s goals didn’t include setting you free, nor did they care about you at all.
- XTD allowed me to infiltrate GCC in exchange for the intel I would get from their operations.
- Project Infinix was an experiment to enslave and illude individuals in worlds against humanity’s morals and ethics, leaving real problems unsolved on Earth, and because of that, the project must be shut down.
- Lynx had told me that XTD’s goal was to take down Infinix, so I joined them. But later I realized that they just wanted to take control of it.
- Ed stays mad as he just discovered that Lisa killed both him and Ana at Alphantia and put the planet at risk with the Air Titan wreaking havoc.
- Lisa can’t tell him the real reason why she hid Ana’s existence on Earth, why she really wanted to free Ed and what her motivations really were.
Lisa
- I was never sure what was worth fighting for, but I wanted to spare you from the truth and from the pain it would bring, as Ana wasn’t who you thought she was, and neither was Infinix.
- Ed forgives Lisa, and he also apologizes for not believing she had the best intentions.
- Lisa hands a pen drive to Ed.
Lisa
- I found this in the Zeta data center a few years ago. It was inside a letter that was placed there by the same person who signed you up for the Project.
- It was encrypted, and the scientists never figured out how to decrypt it. But I did, partially; however, it requires biometric authentication, so maybe you’re the one who can unlock it.
- The data had the Founder’s signature, so I guess you really did have some connection with him.
- The Founder was not killed during the Project’s takeover.
24. Iron Men
- Rui is in the Iron Age, 1000 BCE, fighting knights, alongside some Titans made of iron.
Rui
- Why do you say this will save Infinix?
Kronos
- We’re not only saving it, but we’re also bringing it to life. We’re just following the timeline, so all the requirements are met.
- Doesn’t this scenery sound familiar to you?
- Wasn’t your system fueled by conflict?
